Case Study - Dr Sarah Crick & Jane Connell

A cosmic & creative collab.

Some collaborations come from a pitch. Others start with a casual chat, a cool idea, and a “ I think this could actually work.”

That’s exactly what happened when Dr Sarah Crick, astrophysicist and founder of Mission Astro, met Jane Connell from The Glass Duck through the Pink Coral Community.

They didn’t plan a collaboration. They just connected, built a relationship and talked about their passions and work, and slowly realised that their two very different worlds had more in common than they thought.

Sarah brings space to life through hands-on science education. Jane helps people slow down and create through fused glass art. And together they’ve come up with something really unique.

Here’s where it began…

It all started on 2024… The collab began with at-home STEAM kits. Combining Sarah’s space knowledge with Jane’s glass art.

Nikki and Sarah even brought their kids along to Jane’s studio to test it all out and be the guinea pigs - we had a blast! That sparked everything that came next...

Introducing: a cosmic collab blending astronomy and art

The workshops: They’ve created a pair of collaborative workshops - one all about rockets, and the other inspired by galaxies. It’s exactly what you’d hope for from a Coral collab: creative, clever, and completely original.

Guests get an engaging talk from Sarah about how rockets can blast humans and cargo off the earth into orbit, or how swirling galaxies house millions of stars, gas clouds, and black holes. Then Jane takes over and does what she does best, guiding you through making a fused glass rocket suncatcher or galaxy coaster.

No pressure, just a wonderful mix of science, colour, creativity, and a one-of-a-kind keepsake to take home.

A true Pink Coral Collab

This is exactly what happens when you keep showing up in the same room as other brilliant women.

Science and art might not seem like an obvious match, but Sarah and Jane made it work beautifully.

It’s the kind of thing that only happens when there’s trust, time, and a community that actually gets it.
